Some people say you can't gain real strength and
muscle with kettlebells.
I disagree.
The kettlebell is a tool, just like barbells, dumbbells, or weight machines.
And some of the most important factors for gaining strength and muscle are:
- Proper exercise selection for your goals and needs
- The total number of sets per workout and per
week
- The number of training days per week
- The type of workout split you use (if any)
- The rep range you train in
- How heavy you lift
- Whether you train to failure or not
...NOT whether you hit the bench press every Monday.
In fact, I would argue that for most people over the age of 40 who want to gain muscle and strength in a
joint-friendly way without spending hours at the gym, kettlebells are the SUPERIOR option!
You just need to know exactly how to use them to get the job done.
That's why I've created the 5x5 Kettlebell Challenge workout:
–> 5×5 Training System for Size and Strength: Kettlebell Edition
You see, it used to take me at least 90 minutes to go to the gym, do my lifts, and drive home. The workouts that once worked great for me began to leave me feeling injured and beat up. I knew there
had to be a better way.
I experimented with various workouts like functional training, spin classes, and HIIT. None really did the trick.
But eventually, I discovered kettlebells, and they turned out to be the solution I'd been searching for all along!
Kettlebells allow you to get a full-body workout in a short amount of time. They build muscle, burn fat, and improve conditioning all at once. Best of all, you feel great after training with them, instead of beat up and injured!
As a full-time coach and business owner for the past 15 years, I've written countless kettlebell training plans. However, I believe
my latest program is one of the best yet.
My latest program is based on the classic 5x5 training program but can be done with kettlebells in three short workouts per week!
The 5x5 workout is a strength training program that uses compound exercises to help you build size and strength. It involves performing 5 sets of 5 reps of a chosen exercise, with the goal of increasing
strength and size. Traditionally, this type of workout is done with barbells, but we are adapting this tried-and-true method to use kettlebells instead!
