I have to recertify as a kettlebell instructor
every couple of years. As 2025 approaches, it’s time to renew my certification which involves passing a series of tests. These tests include:
-- Get Up, single/double Swing, single/double Squat, single/double Press, single/double Snatch, Windmill, Push Press, Jerk, and Bent Press form testing with 24kg 'bell(s)
-- 100 KB snatches in 5 minutes with a 24kg kettlebell
-- Strict military press on either side with a 40kg (88-pound)
kettlebell
-- Weighted tactical pull-up with a 16kg kettlebell hanging from the foot
-- bodyweight Pistol squat on either side
These standards are achievable but not easy, requiring specialized training.
(Plus, I'll be doing all of this at age 44 - not ancient quite yet lol, but not a spring chicken either!)
I’ve gone through this re-certification process 5 or 6 times since 2011. Each time, I notice a big difference in how I feel when training for these kettlebell and bodyweight tests compared to, say, the push/pull powerlifting meet I just did a couple of months ago.
Training with KBs and bodyweight, 100% of the time, I feel more functional, more mobile, and just overall better.
That’s why I’m passionate about Hybrid KB Strength Training 3.0:
