Weird “Chasm Push-Up Workout” boosts strength (in only 8 minutes)

Published: Sun, 06/25/17

You might not have heard of the Chasm Push-Up, but it’s one of the most effective exercises for building strength and muscle in your chest.

Why?

Well, with the normal push up, the floor limits your range of motion.

But with the Chasm Push-up, you are able to get deeper into the exercise tearing more muscle fibers.

Here’s how to do it:

1 - Find two blocks or aerobics steps or even chairs, and place them on a sturdy surface. Your feet will be on the ground, and your hands will be on each chair (hand position in a normal push up).

2 - Slowly drop down into the push up, then press back up. If this is too easy, feel free to move the blocks or chairs further away from each other. This will create even deeper strain on your chest.

Ok, now you know how to do the exercise, here’s an 8 minute workout for you to try that is super challenging and uses the Chasm Push Push Up:

Intervals: 45 seconds exercise/12 rest

- Exercise 1: Chasm Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 2: Decline Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 3: Chasm Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 4: Incline Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 5: Chasm Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 6: Slouched Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 7: Chasm Push Up

(12 seconds rest)

- Exercise 8: Narrow Push Up

It only takes 8 minutes to complete.

The above workout is just one of 7 push up workouts that are part of my friend, Bodyweight Todd’s Ultimate 7 Day Push Up Challenge.
